Heidi’s Heroes aims to provide support, care and courage to those who need it most – when they need it most.
We are a registered charity based in Cheltenham, run by six volunteers. Other than a small marketing budget all our funds go directly to help others.
Our three core objectives are to provide practical help and advice to those with cancer and their families; to support the bereaved and give disadvantaged children the courage and opportunity to learn a potentially life-saving skill – swimming.
The reason we chose these three core objectives was as a tribute to Heidi who was initially diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. Sadly the cancer returned and she died the year after her surgery. She was offered support by Maggie’s and her husband Paul was supported by Cruse after her death.
Heidi was a world champion swimmer and after her retirement from world class swimming she went on to coach and teach swimming to many young people in Gloucestershire. Swimming was her passion so supporting and encouraging children to take part in the sport is an integral part of Heidi’s Heroes’ work.
We are a registered charity set up in 2013 and our money is used to fund a variety of initiatives that support our three core objectives.
Our Trustees decide how funds are distributed and we are always happy to consider applications from organisations, groups or individuals with ideas that support our core values.
We welcome contact and input from those working in the areas of cancer care and bereavement support, whether as a full-time professional or as a volunteer. If you know of a particular need or gap in patient or client services, where external funding or support may be required and where Heidi’s Heroes may be able to help, do get in touch. We are particularly interested in funding practical initiatives that directly support those most in need.
