28 Sep Day 2 – Woods on Water – paddling with the sun and the moon

Day 2 was the hardest yet. Covering 26 miles and tackling 11 locks, the fundraisers started at 7.30 am on Sunday and finished at 8 pm last night, Sunday, paddling the last hour by moonlight. With just a 30 minute lunch stop, they had a gruelling 11 hour day. They met lots of merry boaters enjoying the Sunday sunshine as the Thames wound its way around Oxford. Tom tried Richard’s kayak and Richard joined Paul in the Canadian canoe for a short time to test out other sitting positions as stiff muscles started to complain. When the four fundraisers finally arrived at Wallingford at 8 pm they were still in their shorts and T-shirts. To finish the day they had to lift their boats up an 8ft bank to the camp site only to find the toilet and shower block closed for the season. A long, hard, very tiring and smelly end to the day!
